HUMIC AND FULVIC ACID

We’re committed to sourcing and providing supplements made with high-quality, well-sourced ingredients, like our humic and fulvic acid blend. We believe it’s essential to report humic substance content accurately, which is why we maintain partnerships that enable us to follow and implement the latest industry standards for testing and validation.

The Humic Products Trade Association and International Humic Substances Society (IHSS) have developed a scientifically backed method for determining the hydrophobic fulvic acid fraction in humic products. This method, published in the Journal of AOAC International, has been approved by both the American Association of Plant Food Control Officials (AAPFCO) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The humic and fulvic acid used in our products is tested using this IHSS/Lamar/AOAC method, helping ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of what goes into every bottle.

Patented Fulvic Isolation Technology

Our blend is created using an innovative production process that uses physical, non-chemical techniques to extract the full spectrum of humic substances, including both humic and fulvic acid. Unlike the industry standard, which relies on harsh acid-base chemical extraction, the patented methods used for our products isolate beneficial compounds at the molecular level, without introducing chemical residues or compromising purity. The result is a more concentrated, environmentally friendly, and cleaner humic fulvic acid product.

Humic substances are a naturally diverse mix of humified organic compounds with complex chemical structures. Traditional extraction methods, acid-base reactions, tend to strip away much of this complexity by excluding compounds based on solubility at extreme pH levels. In contrast, the FIT™ extraction process preserves the full integrity of these materials, retaining their broad spectrum and natural balance while enhancing stability, effectiveness, and overall performance.

How Does Extraction Method Impact Purity?

The way humic and fulvic acids are extracted plays a major role in the purity, safety, and effectiveness of the final product. Common chemical extraction methods often involve the use of strong bases, which raise the pH to extreme levels, typically between 10 and 12, in order to solubilize humic and fulvic acids from solid organic matter. These steps not only leave behind chemical residues but also require further pH adjustment, to lower pH, before the product is safe for oral or agricultural use.

In contrast, the extraction method used for our blend uses water-based physical extraction, which avoids the use of harsh chemicals altogether. This allows us to maintain a more natural pH range of approximately 6 to 8, closer to the native environment of humic substances. The result is a cleaner, safer, and more bioavailable product that better preserves the complex molecular structure and full spectrum of beneficial compounds found in nature.

Why pH Matters

The pH of the product affects how humic substances interact with minerals, metals, and biological tissues.  If very acidic or alkaline it can irritate tissues, especially if they are used orally/internally. And importantly so, the binding behaviour is also affected by an unnatural pH which affects metal chelation, solubility, stability and redox capacity.

Fully Pasteurized

Our Humic Fulvic Acid products are fully pasteurized to protect their purity and comply with regulatory standards of quality and safety regarding the presence of pathogenic bacteria. They are optimized for applications with sensitive biomes and where product quality is strictly controlled.

What About Heavy Metals Like Aluminum?

Because humic substances are naturally sourced from the earth, trace amounts of heavy metals, like aluminum, can be present. That’s why we go to great lengths to ensure our product meets the highest quality standards. We source exclusively from a premium Canadian humus deposit known for its low levels of ash and undesirable heavy metals, which are often found in competitor products.

Aluminum, for example, is one of the most abundant elements in the earth’s crust and can be found in many natural deposits. However, in our product, aluminum is not present as free Al³⁺ (as found in food additives or aluminum salts). Instead, it is tightly bound, or complexed, within the humic and fulvic acid structure. These molecules contain multiple binding sites, particularly carboxyl and phenolic groups, that “lock in” the aluminum, significantly reducing its reactivity and bioavailability.

Think of humic acid as a sponge with many magnet-like sites: while some may already be occupied by naturally occurring aluminum, many remain available to bind other potentially harmful metals. In fact, humic substances can actually support detoxification in the human body by binding heavy metals in the GI tract and helping remove them through the stool, a benefit often seen in HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) testing in both humans and animals.

Extensive research in agriculture and environmental science also shows that humic and fulvic acids reduce aluminum bioavailability in soil and water, protecting plants, microorganisms, and ecosystems from aluminum toxicity. https://www.mdpi.com/2571-8789/7/3/68
